FADER TV: Esser in the Park
- story THE FADER
On the eve of Esser’s NYC debut, FADER editor Julianne Escobedo Shepherd took him to our favorite spot in the park near our office to very earnestly grill him about his mixtape, West Side Story and, of course, his amazing hair. They were unfortunately not barefoot in the park, but there was a totally random girl suntanning on the concrete next to their table. Hopefully Esser enjoyed their lovely little jaunt, because next time he comes to the States he’s gonna get mobbed like something out of Help. Read more about Esser’s life and times in FADER #62, and check out a picture of the Esser jacket they’re talking about after the jump.

- story THE FADER
We and you and everyone we know has been trumpeting the Summer Of Love 2009, and it was our mantra as we put together FADER Issue 62. We scoured the universe for the summeriest, most barbecuey music this year and came up with an issue that, if you scratch-and-sniff it, smells vaguely coconutty like Hawaiian Tropic (not really). As such, this issue’s podcast, presented by Bacardi B-LIVE, is about as clear a definition of what we think you should be listening to in the coming months as we could possibly make. It’s got songs from every artist in the issue from cover stars Phoenix, Major Lazer, Maluca, DJ Sega and Popo; featured power-bros Young Dro, Dum Dum Girls, Wavves, Crocodiles, Family Time Records fam, Gen Fers Omega, D-Lo and Sleepy D, Esser, CFCF, and like a trizillion more people! Download it below and listen while reading the issue, scorching hot like the sun on newsstands right now. And come back to TheFADER.com in two weeks for the free issue PDF that you can save on your computer until the robots take over.

Freeload: Esser’s “America” Mixtape
- story THE FADER
Pop unconventionalist Esser frequently puts together excellent mixtapes of just the right length, about 20 minutes, a handy grab bag of the dubstep, weirdo rock and classics he’s jamming. To celebrate his first American tour (stopping in NYC on Monday!) he’s made an “America” mixtape that kicks off with the “America” song from West Side Story, transitions into some crazy dancehall mixed with tablas, and blows it all out with Patrick Juvet’s disco classic “I Love America.” We are excited for you to get stateside dude!

Freeload: Esser, “Long Arms” MP3
- story THE FADER
We became completely enamored of Benjamin Esser and his band of merry electronic pop-punker men in Austin, Texas, when they played the FADER Fort earlier this year. He was wearing a custom blazer with his name on it in studs and he sang like it was the last thing he would ever do, so expressive and yelpy. He is making his New York debut on June 15, so that is rad. He is also featured in our next issue, which comes out the day after that. There is synergy in the world, we will be witness to it!

Exclusive Freeload: Esser, “I Love You (Prince Paul RMX)”
- story THE FADER
London’s Esser is one of our favorite new dudes. He writes such quirkily lovelorn pop, and he killed at the Levi’s/FADER Fort in Austin this year, not to mention he has amazing style (the custom Esser jacket was thee ultiimate jam). One of the best songs off his forthcoming album is entitled “I Love You,” which includes the astute line Love is no excuse for bad art. Can we make that an internet meme please? People got to learn. Prince Paul remixed “I Love You” into an even forlorner track we are giving to you as a present, plus download his single “Headlock” and watch the OG “I Love You” video above for a total Esserextravaganza.

- story THE FADER
Since the temporary suspension of our weekly UK pop column Dollars To Pounds, we’ve been forced to seek out new Transatlantic jams for ourselves. One guy we’ve been steadily checking up on is this Beaker-coiffed kid from London named Esser and this particularly bubbly song that starts out with the same synth effect as “Peacebone.” Anything Animal Collective even if just mnemonically is good with us, but Esser actually has a whole slew of good songs up on his MySpace and Sinden has his remix of “Work It Out” up on his.
