Video: French Montana, “Henny and a 44″

Despite having already inspired some great music, Hennessy hasn’t really had the best association with rap as of late. “Blaming it on the Henny,” however, couldn’t be less appropriate in the case of Kanye because just like in high school, stunting way harder than you’re built for can only lead to hurt feelings and embarrassment. And it did. French Montana, however, who seems well versed in the merits of drinking in public, just released another song referencing his beverage of choice, with a video directed by World Star all-star, Picture Perfect, who also once filmed a piece of another Frenchie video in the FADER offices. Notably, the intro for “Henny and a 44″ makes sure to shout out Connecticut, a state French has mined for show money in the vein of people’s champions D-Block and Papoose before him, and the only place we’ve been able to see French perform so far.

Premiere: French Montana, “Nutin 2 Meee” + “Married To The Streets” MP3

This is just unfair at this point. When Akon signed Frenchie, we could’ve assumed they’d be collaborating at some point, but we also happen to know that French already has a vault full of Dame Grease bangers to choose from for his proper debut. And now he’s convinced Akon to climb out of his Auto-tomb to bind French’s verses on some New York “Soul Survivor” shit? Have people stopped playing “New York Minute” already? They shouldn’t have—although it’s a bit more understandable as French continues, with startling consistency, the onslaught he and Max began together. Fresh off his Gen F profile in the current issue, French also recently sent over “Nutin 2 Meee,” which will probably get buried in one of his mixtapes, among a bunch of other great mixtape music, but we’d happily advise more people to release mixtape music untagged if it hit as hard as this does.

The FADER Issue 63 Podcast MP3

Our annual Fall Fashion issue is covered by the unlikeliest of stars—Drake, the former teen heartthrob turned hottest thing in rap, and Girls, whose main man escaped a Christian cult to write ragged pop songs. We’re all about switching up life plans this autumn and opting for the unexpected—partially inspired by these guys, partially by performance arty fashion designer Henrik Vibskov, also featured in the issue, who we’re using as our muse into 2010 (don’t freak out if you see us in the street wearing yarn over our faces). The latest issue podcast reflects our transformational attitudes, with disparate but equally awesome tracks by Pissed Jeans, Glasser, Douster, Kingdom, Free Energy, French Montana, plus a ton more, and of course the aforementioned cover stars. Download it below while asking yourself, “HOW CAN I BE MORE AWESOME THIS AUTUMN (if that is even possible)?” And keep TheFADER.com on lock, for on September 1st, we shall post the PDF of our entire issue for free, because we’re just that into you.

Video: French Montana f. Mac Mustard & Hollywood Fergie, “More Money”

Max B is locked up and probably will be for quite a while, but the wave must go on. NYC surrogate rookie of the year French Montana continues to carry the flag though, introducing the rest of the wave gang on “More Money” in Mac Mustard and Hollywood Fergie. And while Max’s aura is clearly visible in T-shirt form, French and crew will no doubt be in attendance for Max’s July 31st sentencing, which they are also asking fans to show up for.

Back in April “New York Minute” had us believing not just in Max B sideman and Konvict signee, French Montana, but in our very own city. And now we have a video with pictures of our very own city and French Montana AND Jadakiss and all we want to do is go to Hawaii. Not that the two are related.

Freeload: French Montana The Laundry Man EP

For a while we were sure French Montana was this sort of Slash to Max B’s Axl Rose; stand around and look cool and give people a break from Max’s drunken lullaby. Then we heard the Coke Wave mixtape and got really excited about someone from New York who wants to sound like they are actually from New York. French released the The Laundry Man EP as a follow up to his Macaroni With The Cheese mixtape, which if the titles alone are to be believed, both prove that he really likes money. What you’ll have to listen to discover is that he also enjoys abusing Dame Grease beats and reintroducing Akon as a thoroughbred chorus horse.

Freeload: French Montana f. Jadakiss, “New York Minute”

Is New York in the house, say whatttttt?!? We listen to a song like “New York Minute” and suddenly we’re not looking down on people who buy those t-shirts that say “New York Fucking City” because it reminds us that at one time it really was, New York Fucking City. French Montana held it down admirably during Max and his Coke Wave crusade, but having just signed to Akon’s Konvict Music label, it would seem we aren’t the only ones excited about someone who makes NYC sound like a place you’d want to live. We don’t mean to get all “bring New York back” on you, but this is the kind of music Jay-Z probably wishes he was still making. Actually, that’s not true.

Video: Max B f. French Montana, “V.I.P.”

Just when we thought we’d reached calmer seas, a new wave emerges. We scoured the internets for a full version of Max B’s “V.I.P.” as soon as we heard the snippet listed as “Want” on Wavy Off That Grand Cru 2. Turns out that it wasn’t even out yet. But today, out of nowhere, we get sound and pictures! Max and French made for a hell of a tandem on Coke Wave, so we’ll be expecting no less from the impending Coke Wave 2.
