Stylee Fridays: Agentur V Brings Wood Wood, Henrik Vibskov and More to NYC
- story Chioma Nnadi
Agentur V are based in Berlin so we usually only get the pleasure of riffling through their wares twice a year. Luckily the fashion agency that handles the likes of Henrik Vibskov, Wood Wood and Christian Wijnants have opened a New York outpost in SoHo and Sarah, pictured here in a lovely green Henrik V number, will be heading up the daily runnings downtown. Picking out our fantasy Agentur V shopping list has become a bit of a seasonal ritual for us. After the jump, see all the pieces we’ll be scrimping euros for next spring.
Aloha Rag Offers Practical Results With Their New Line
- story Alex Frank
Aloha Rag is a bright spot of a boutique on the west side of New York with colorful Henrik Vibskov knits and playfully deviant work of Martin Margiela. It’s not a store for fashion lovers who drape themselves in basic black. We love Aloha Rag for their kaleidoscopic medley of styles, colors, and aesthetics. But for their first foray into designing their own clothes, it’s not weirdness and subversion that rule the day.

Reality Studio Designs Clothes For Ancient Igloos
- story Chioma Nnadi
Set in the eastern arctic wilderness about 1000 years ago, Inuit movie Atanarjuat the Fast Runner is said to be a work of icy supernatural wonder. Reality Studio, women’s wear line out of Berlin, based its entire fall collection on the action thriller, and the clothes—huge hooded coats and tons of cozy draped wool over gorgeous wintry prints—are enough to make us update our Netflix queue immediately. In the meantime, we’re working on a fashion legend of our very own, a tale that involves a super-powered canoe and an epic journey across the seas to the Henrik Vibskov store in Copenhagen, where choice pieces from the collection just went on sale.

For his FADER feature story Henrik Vibskov, gave us full access to his loopy and amazing kingdom. Photographer Guy Martin captured The Solar Donkey Experiment, his spring 2010 runway show in Paris, while Thomas Lekfeldt trailed the Danish designer at the Roskilde music festival in Denmark. Vibskov was the creative director of the dragon formation for Trentemøller’s performance, and you can spot him in his uniform—harem shorts, camo jacket, striped socks and beat-up lil hat—shifting in-between the dancers, on his way to the drum kit.

Try plotting a straight line through the glorious la-la-land that is Henrik Vibskov’s imagination and you might run in to some obstacles. Regular fashion speak—that clunky system of trend reports and fancy biannual presentations—won’t help much with the navigation, especially since Vibskov doesn’t do fashion in the traditional sense. Henrik Vibskov & Andreas Emenius Launch The Fringe Projects Book in NYC
- story Chioma Nnadi
Danish designer and subject of a feature in FADER #63, Henrik Vibskov, and artist Andreas Emenius started out The Fringe Projects with just 20 euros, plastering themselves in black and white photocopies for their first installation. Several art exhibits and lots of shredded fabric later and the madcap duo have published a book on their antics one through 10, with everything from fringe-covered racing cars to beer bottles to crazy Cousin It outfits. The official NY book launch kicks off tonight at the LaViolabank Gallery on the LES between 6pm and 9pm. According to the flier posted on Diane Pernet’s site, new pancakes and techno will be served.

Teki Latex’s Big Man Swag
Lookbook.nu is the go-to spot for aspiring Sartorialist muses, where anyone can post daily photos of their style game. We’re pro-democracy, but frankly it’s a clusterfuck—who wants to see what everyone in the world is wearing every single day? One person’s page we never miss though is that of Teki Latex, lead lothario of French electro-rap crew TTC and sonic proprietor of Institubes and Sound Pellegrino. Armed with a mission to “be innovative in this world of Elves dressed like The Strokes,” Teki tends towards ATL-gone-sci-fi, blending Ralph Lauren, Nikes, golf caps and edgier, textured embellishments—the odd Sixpack scarf or knitted socks from Henrik Vibskov. Our current favorite is a look he titles “Major Blazer,” a combo of cardinal blue deck shoes and tailored Lauren blazer flossed with a black silk Roc Star square as a shawl. It’s not stuffy prep so much as “classy in the club,” perfect for transitioning from daytime on Harvard yard to a nighttime rave on a boat.

Style: Henrik Vibskov’s Spinning Wheels
- story THE FADER
Henrik Vibskov is one of the greatest, most loopy and fantastic designers around, and we’ve always wondered what a stroll around the inner workings of his mind might be like. Last Friday, surrounded by man-sized rotating hamster wheels at his Fall ‘09 show at Copenhagen Fashion Week, we got a little peep.
Walking around his awesome red-walled store, filled with Vibskov goodness (crazy patterned tights, coogi-inspired laptop covers and brightly colored Vibskov strollers) in Copenhagen earlier that afternoon was just the right kind of prelude, although nothing could have prepared us for the hypnotic hugeness that was the show. Vibskov is never shy of color and prints — video game-inspired prints, gigantic polka dotted Aztec patterns or straight up jailbird stripes are all in there, and that’s why we will always love him. Aside from the rotating fashion madness (our girl Susie caught the action on film for her blog Style Bubble here), spotting all the kids in the crowd proudly wearing their favorite Vibskov leggings/pants/crazy poncho was probably the most heart-warming part of the night. That and seeing the four models trample for their dear lives on those wheels — some of them didn’t go the distance, poor things. If you look closely though, you’ll notice the hard-body Amish-looking model in the green suit isn’t even breaking a sweat.
Style: Vibskov Makes Knocktabobbles For Quinny
- story THE FADER
We imagine when Henrik Vibskov was a kid he took daily trips to remote islands where the wild things are, visited Mr. Ignanomous and his band of renegades or sailed along in a banana boat on a quest for a magical spear. The matured Vibskov retains some of that mystery still, bringing some wild imagery to the catwalk with amazing creations in eccentric prints and vivid story lines. So it’s no wonder that he’s conjured up a collection for Euro kids accessory line, Quinny, using strange penguin snow suits and rainbow-colored strollers with dangling knocktabobbles. While getting to the bottom of Vibskov’s wondrous aesthetics we discovered a story about a young penguin boy that runs off to the forest to join a musical entourage of traveling bandits, a tale beautifully reenacted in the collection’s campaign where small flipper-winged children wander the misty forest, and synchronized swimmers balance umbrellas on their tippy toes. Vibskov manages to capture the dark and exciting qualities of childhood not just in the line but in it’s presentation, enough so that we’re coveting pieces long before our firstborn are even mentally conceived.
