Video: The Dead Weather, “I Cut Like a Buffalo”
- story Sam Hockley-Smith
All comments about the weirdness of this video aside (and there are definitely plenty of weird moments—what is the significance of the bellydancing? What is up with the super-blue background?), it should be noted that Jack White has essentially bottled mid-’90s alternative rock malaise and waited until precisely this moment to unleash it. So if you’ve missed world-weary, obtuse and bitter lyrics paired with sharp guitar stabs, then this is the jam for you. (via Prefix)
Stream: The Dead Weather, Horehound LP
- story Peter Macia
In our current summer music issue, we concocted a line graph of supergroups gone wrong, and suggested The Dead Weather, comprised of Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), might be an exception to the rule. We didn’t base this solely on their collective hair, but on their new album Horehound, out July 14th, which, contrary to the complacent non-jams on most supergroup albums, makes it sound like being a gigantic rock star is the most aggravating job in the world. We know for a fact that manual labor is more aggravating, but Horehound is still awesome. Hear it right now in its entirety for 24 hours on The Internet.

Video: Alicia Keys & Jack White, “Another Way to Die”
- story THE FADER
It’s funny to think that that Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse song didn’t make the cut for the Quantum of Solace theme because Winehouse was a bit strung out, and then they are replaced by Jack White, who actually looks like he’s been dead for a few weeks. Respect the living! Anyway, as far as Bond songs go, this is definitely no “View to a Kill” but it is also no “You Know My Name.” Take that as you will. Also, it’s clear that these two were either filmed separately or hate each other with a passion because there is a quantum of indifference in Alicia’s eyes throughout.
