Video: Little Boots, “Earthquake”

This is how we imagine FADER #57 coverstar Little Boots lives her life when she’s not touring: in a special magic home modified to look like a galaxy, holding a speck of land in her hand like a delicate pearl. Then we remember she is a British star with an affinity for YouTube, not the Empress from NeverEnding Story. But it kind of works, no? (via Chunnel)

In the Shadow of Things with Photographer Leonie Purchas

As one of our favorite and oft-used photographers, Leonie Purchas has graced the FADER with her probing, visceral portraits of Bat For Lashes, Little Boots and Tough Alliance, among others, and we’ve admired her personal work documenting families across the world and the ties that bind them. For her latest gallery show, though, she’s taken on a more intimate subject: her own family. For In the Shadow of Things, she documented her mother’s struggle with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, as she unpacked moving boxes that had been shelved and unopened for 12 years. In what must have been a difficult process for Purchas, she ended up truncating the distance between photographer and subject, in the process turning the camera into a sort of magic vessel for coping. It won her the KLM Paul Huf Award out of 81 nominees, and will exhibit through October 25 at Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam as a result. After the jump, check out a few more images and read her artist’s statement.

Video: Little Boots, “Remedy”

It is possible that this new pyramid after hours. Either that or Victoria Hesketh lives inside a kaleidoscope that only plays Madonna videos from 1997, which actually sounds not that bad. It’s also possible that “Remedy” is going to be the new theme song for dudes in suits humping.

Audio: Little Boots Streams Hands

FADER #59 covergirl Little Boots is now streaming her debut album Hands on MySpace. If you’re in the UK, you can buy Hands in a week (and in the US this fall), or you can use the ones you have to click the link above. Then you can clap them together or put them on your hips and dance like an idiot. The world is your oyster. To see Little Boots in action watch this video of her at this year’s FADER Fort in Texas, and to read why we think she’s better than unsliced bread (fresher than sliced), read our cover story here.

Video: Little Boots, “New in Town”

What is going on here? Did Little Boots actually make a video with homeless people doing synchronized dancing under a bridge? Is that an actual dance battle? Is this supposed to be like West Side Story? Could this be Little Boots’ foray into real life no joke pop music megastardom? We could see this song on the next volume of Now That’s What I Call Music, we could see it on shampoo commercials, gum commercials, car commercials… since we put her on the cover of FADER 59 does that mean we get a cut of the profits? No? Are you sure?

FADER TV: Little Boots Interview and Austin Tour Diary

We stopped a gracious Little Boots after her Wednesday night headlining set for an interview at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort where she showed off her outfit and we looked at the internet. Also, after the jump, we have a few of Little Boots’ personal photos from her trip to Austin and, after her recuperation, a wrap up of her first trip to Texas. Things get meta.

FADER TV: Little Boots, “Meddle” (Live at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort)

No style stranger, former FADER cover star Little Boots showed up at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort wearing an elegant sheath in an eggplant shade and five-inch heels—and, if you count her party-emitting, lite-brite sequencer, her accessories game was on point. Here, she performs her crowd-detonating megahit “Meddle”—and without like, 14,000 Dutch remixers on the internet trying to trance it out, it was no mess, no rave, just pure unadulterated disco Boots. We like it like that.

FADER TV: LA Is A Nice Place To Live #9

On each episode of FADER TV’s LA Is A Nice Place To Live, the West Coast staff takes in some of the city’s culture and fun good times. We recently walked two blocks from the Los Angeles office to catch Little Boots‘ first L.A. performance at no other than the hipster mecca known as Cinespace. While we weren’t surprised Little Boots won over the crowd with her irresistible energy and sporadic turns at the tambourine, the crowd itself did catch us off guard. Who knew that somewhere there was a nexus between the Cobrasnake crowd and dudes that look like bank tellers? Little Boots is touring her homeland now but will return for some very special shows at SXSW in March.

FADER/Southern Comfort 7-inch Series #9: Little Boots and Wild Yaks

For her contribution to FADER’s 7-inch series, current cover star Little Boots gives us one of her shiniest tracks (and one of her first to be officially released). The sound of 8PM and everyone’s first drink of the night, “Magical” glistens with young prospects. It’s a cool, clean song that throbs just enough to suggest a little mischievousness.

Wild Yaks’ “I’m A Fool”, a live nugget from the Brooklyn party band, sounds like 5AM Sunday morning when you’re still trying to go hard even though you know you better go home. Singer Rob Bryn might be barely hanging onto his mic, like he wants to give it up, but he definitely can’t let go. Maybe that’s why he can’t stop wailing “I’m A Fool” over and over.

Peep the Maya Wild cover art, too. Download both tracks by clicking the link below and email contests@thefader.com with “Little Yaks” in the subject line to win a copy of the vinyl.

FADER 59: Little Boots Cover Story

  • story Kim Taylor Bennett
  • photo Leonie Purchas

The perfect pop analog to Harlem’s Charles Hamilton is Blackpool, England’s Little Boots aka Victoria Hesketh. Both have blogs where they constantly update fans with new songs (Hesketh’s is here) and those songs are consistently the best ones you’ve heard all day. Both are super young and kind of nerdish, but Little Boots exploded clubs like a hardened studio rat last year with “Stuck On Repeat,” which, we promise you, was not an accident. Kim Taylor Bennett caught up with Hesketh and her Tenori-On at her new home in London while photographer Leonie Purchas took her back to Blackpool for some epic coastal scenery. Read the full story after the jump and check back with TheFADER.com for more Little Boots exclusives.
