Video: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, “Young Adult Friction”
- story THE FADER
Generally, we feel, young adult friction normally follows four-person slumber parties like the Pains of Being Pure at Heart are having in this video: somebody eats too much sugar and gets cranky at 2 am, somebody else feels left out, somebody else is too freaked to go to sleep cause of the Freddy Krueger movie y’all just watched. We’ve been through it. Hey Pains, our advice is that you try to make it through the night and then in the morning you can all talk out your feelings over coffee and the paper. It’s not as bad as it seems!
FADER TV: Food Thyme with Pains of Being Pure at Heart
- story THE FADER
Back when I was a squirrelly little intern at New York Noise, my boss used to tell me about her favorite salad blog called Last Night’s Salad Party. It just so happened to be run by Peggy Wang, current Pains of Being Pure at Heart keyboardist and vocalist. Unfortunately it is no longer (R.I.P., Salad Party!), but being a fellow salad enthusiast, I invited Peggy and her bandmates, Kip and Alex over to help make not just any ordinary salad but a salad tower, which was actually a ploy to try and inspire Peggy to resurrect LNSP. It might have failed, but if you listen carefully, you can hear Peggy inventing some new salads on the spot. I might already be planning on making that brains salad for dinner tonight. For the original recipe you can go here, and if you’re looking for veggie crab in New York, I highly suggest Vegie World in Chinatown.

Tripwire: Interview with The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
- story THE FADER
It seems like just yesterday that one relatively unsung song from this band inspired self-conscious debate over New York’s place in twee history, and now they are Best New Music on Pitchfork and surely destined for some kind of elevated status (or a second album review consisting of a dog peeing on a cat). So it is with a tinge of instant nostalgia that we read The Tripwire interview with the band which is both innocent, darling and about 9,000 words long. Read it, read our review of the album from our new issue after the jump, and then prepare to see Pains who are currently on tour in the US.
