Video: Sigur Ros Live At MOMA On Current TV
- story THE FADER
We caught some of Sigur Ros live at MOMA on an actual television last night and got to thinking about how the band can get cheesy and tug at our heartstrings at exactly the same time. We had a spare 46 minutes, so we headed over to Current TV and caught what we missed. The video starts out jerky, and then becomes a slow series of tight shots and smooth zooms, and—in addition to really making us wish we made it there—reminds us how awesome MOMA is. This is like the second time the band has posted a really long video on the internet, so we all may as well just go with it and start watching.
Teaser: Sigur Ros At MoMA On Current
- story THE FADER
We missed Sigur Ros’ show at MoMA last month, but we weren’t that bummed about it because we knew Current would be there recording the whole thing. They just put up a short teaser, but it does get us excited to watch the full show on Current on August 5th at 10pm EST (you can watch it online as well). And the added bonus is that we will be able to watch it as it was meant to be watched— on a tiny black and white Sony Watchman with a fork jammed in the antenna hole. Epicness.
Freeload: Sigur Ros, “Illgresi (Them Jeans Remix)”
- story THE FADER
Jason “Them Jeans” Stewart, the tallest DJ in the universe, just put this remix up on his blog (spotted by Discobelle), claiming he made it on the 4-hour train ride from Portland to Seattle with some polishing after he got home. Tom Moulton used to take a whole day just to make a disco edit. Here’s to technology. It made this balearic-ish remix of one of the sadder songs from Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust possible, and one day it will make us as tall as Them Jeans. And then we will rule the world.

Ryan McGinley and Sigur Ros History Lesson
- story THE FADER
With yesterday’s debut of Sigur Ros’ Ryan McGinley-assisted video for “Gobbledigook,” we were compelled to search our magazine archives for the July 2002 issue of Dazed & Confused where ex-Vicer, current-Street Carnager Gavin Mcinnes wrote about spending twenty-four hours with McGinley. Here is a selection from the article’s opening:
“Yo that dude is fucking hot!” says Ryan pointing to the cock-eyed lead singer of Sigur Ros. We were looking at a magazine on the plane and we were on our way to Midnight Sun in Iceland; a pretentious fashion show with tons of free booze and great parties. After a ten-day work bender of sitting in front of computers and slaving in the darkroom, we were ready for a ten-day booze bender of cum, coke and fist-fights. Ryan was looking smug and I could tell he had convinced himself he was going to find that dude, photograph him and do lots of stuff that I don’t like to think about…
Soon after arriving in Reykjavik, I noticed Ryan taking the Sigur Ros guy’s picture. The rest of the night involved following the unimpressed singer from bar to bar until the two of them were necking like Puerto Rican teenagers playing hooky.
And now, six years later, the two are making videos together of naked wood shenanigans. Who says romance is dead?

Iceland is a crazy looking place, that is just a fact that we can all get down with. Luckily, Sigur Rós know that too, so when they put out the beautifully shot Heima late last year it obviously looked good. Still though, a lot of people probably missed out on it, so the band has put the entire thing up on YouTube. You can check it out above the next time you have a free 97 or so minutes to watch dudes make epically comforting music and talk really softly.
