Freeload: Tame Impala, “Half Full Glass of Wine”
- story THE FADER
Apparently, someone over at the iTunes megaplex has been reading The FADER regularly because the last few Singles of the Week have been very familiar. This week, iTunes Australia is offering Tame Impala’s “Half Full Glass of Wine,” the video for which we recently posted. To get the song you’ll need to turn your computer upside down, click the link below, and be whisked away to a rugged land of hearty vegetation and heartier natives—Australia— where crocs and sharks and bands like Tame Impala chomp on your wussy technologically-advanced ass like it’s their birthright. Oh wait, actually all you have to do is click the link and change your iTunes Store to Australia.

We’re not sure what a half full glass of wine is exactly—it’s either full or it isn’t—but the drum breakdown that makes up the last minute of Tame Impala’s new video makes us want to pour wine all over our FACES and it’s only MONDAY. This, along with “Skeleton Tiger,” should have all those who love riffs, shredding and legitimately scummy sounding psych getting pretty excited for Modular’s latest signing from Perth. Tame Impala also recently contributed a Modcast, collecting some inspirations and recent favorites including Selda, Dungen, Sly & The Family Stone, The Beatles, Silver Apples and, of course, Outkast.

If you are a regular FADER blog reader you’ve probably already heard a couple different iterations of “Skeleton Tiger” by our current favorite Australian basement band Tame Impala. In the time since we posted that song, Modular UK has signed the band, set a date for their upcoming EP (October 11th) and now set up a fancy new website with a really big picture of the band and a sign-up form to get a free song. If you sign up, maybe Tame Impala will come take you out for soy ice cream and some surfing, but you’ll definitely get a jam.

- story THE FADER
In our fantasy world Tame Impala are playing to packed crowds in every park in Australia, but we don’t live there so who knows what is going on. However, when we were alerted to the brand new song “Desire Be Desire Go” on their MySpace, we spent the morning (actually the last nine or so minutes) listening to attractively sloppy drum fills and that weird psych effect that sounds like someone playing a guitar on top of a rocket shooting into a black hole. Also, it turns out that our dreams of the band playing to large audiences may not be so weird: Tame Impala signed to Modular and are busting out of the garage and straight onto large stages for a bunch of dates with MGMT.
