The Big Pink, “Dominos” (Switch Remix) MP3

Switch is a quiet dude to make such a racket. He records mostly in his in-house studio in LA, doesn’t like to play shows and generally is happy to have nothing to do with the overdriven dance music he’s helped to frame. But he is interested in rock music lately, remixing dirgy duo The Big Pink’s single “Dominos.” He’s turned their guitars mostly into fire engine squeals, but left their vocals mostly untouched, just looped decree that these girls fall like dominos. With their drum machines and riffs replaced with hard 4AM-in-Barcelona BPMs, their disembodied voices sound especially cockney, single hometown missive amongst a complete reworking. This remix is like a college thesis on border crossing.

One of the best songs of the year gets a video with a bunch of naked ice babes in it. The Big Pink’s A Brief History Of Love is out September 14th on 4AD. (via P4k)

The Big Pink’s string of “Too Young To Love,” “Velvet” and “Dominoes” this year has been pretty hard to beat when it comes to semi-industrial, semi-Mancunian songs that shred parties like Jaws shredded wheat. Actually, no one’s really tried to beat them, but still, they are champs! Now you can hear for yourself that the band’s entire debut album is just as good because they’re streaming it on their website. Listen now, buy later when A Brief History Of Love comes out on September 22nd (14th in UK).

The Big Pink, “Dominos” MP3

What do you do if you’re The Big Pink and your first two songs were so monumentally jamming that you basically had to create the most jamming monument to monumental jams ever with your next song to convince people you weren’t just lucky the first time around? You write a song called “Dominos” and make it sound like this apparently. Like Einstürzende Neubauten if they really wanted to get on the radio to impress a girl instead of confuse and scare people. “Dominos” will be on The Big Pink’s new album A Brief History of Love (<--yes), out September 22nd on 4AD.

Fans of good music and haters of vowels, come together and partake in Urban Outfitters latest URBN LSTN thing, in which they give away a crapload of free songs from a bunch of artists, some of whom have been given full endorsement by us in the pages of FADER Magazine and right here on this webternet site. Artists such as Grizzly Bear, Crystal Antlers, Apostle of Hustle, Passion Pit, The Big Pink, Amazing Baby, Jeremy Jay, Major Lazer, Popo, Lemonade, Nite Jewel, Phoenix and many more whose songs we’ve already posted here! It’s almost like they’re stealing from us! It’s almost like we should get compensated in some way! It’s almost like they should send over lifetime gift cards so we can stop wearing dirty t-shirts and duct tape shoes!

Freeload: The Big Pink, “Velvet (Gang Gang Dance Remix)”

Gang Gang Dance deflated the electro from Big Pink’s drama-dude love jammer “Velvet” and made it light as a feather, then they get all urban mystical on us with some wicked crystal sounds possibly played on a triangle, and the classic GGD pastiche drum editing. GGD makes us wanna go break some glass in a good way, or wander around the Lower East Side in a Greek-patterned Snuggie.

This might open us up to some unwanted psychological scrutiny, but The Big Pink’s new video instantly reminds us of this NSFW post about Coco de Mer lingerie on Street Carnage. Don’t blame us, we’re just aggregating! (via P4k)

The Big Pink’s “Too Young To Love” has been in pretty heavy rotation around here since we first heard it in late summer, but today is the first time we’ve seen the duo in motion. And we have decided to book them for The FADERbaby party we’re having as soon as one of us has a baby because they look like a lot of fun! Speaking of parties, Big Pink is supporting current FADER coverboys TV on the Radio on a string of UK dates in November, so go to one if you’re in the area.

Call us paranoid, but a few weeks ago, while perusing the top friends on the Klaxons’ MySpace (shut up!), we ran across this band The Big Pink, also from London. We said to ourselves, “Hey this is excellent. It’s slightlly abrasive, yet totally uplifting. We’ll ask their management for an mp3 to put on The FADER dot com.” No sooner had we stopped talking to ourselves than a bunch of sites posted the same song we’d politely asked for, “Too Young To Love.” Were they spying on us? Are we too nice? Does the internet foster evil and betrayal? Yes, no, yes, respectively. They are spies, we are pros, and this thing is the devil’s penis in the shape of a silver box.

Anyhoozers, we got the go ahead from the band to post this great song, the b-side on their upcoming vinyl-only “Crystal Visions” single on House Anxiety, and we will have plenty more to say about them in the future. In the meantime, if you’re in London, check them out supporting Crystal Castles tomorrow night at the Electric Ballroom. They are apparently pretty nuts.
