Shawty Redd, Reloaded mixtape

July 17, 2009

Outside of maybe Kanye, it's pretty rare that a producer of any bearing will do justice to their own production by rapping over it. Not to insinuate that producing is a cakewalk, but latent rappers—read: pseudo celebs, video models and more commonly, rap producers—love to disregard how hard it is to rap well. Shawty Redd, who has produced some of the most colossal trap-eating anthems Escalades have ever seen for both Jeezy and Gucci, as well as producing Snoop Dogg's career-saving "Sensual Seduction," is the last person most people would have assumed had a right to voice his own production. Reloaded, however, is a mixtape of him rapping (well) over his own Halloween crunk, talking about girls, burritos, and even speaking Spanish on a song called "Cut The Check." Actually half the tape is about how much he likes money. And not in the "making it rain sense," but in the "I'm not even turning on this MPC on without stacks on deposit" sense. Download Reloaded below and listen to Shawty Redd somehow yell "Cayate!" inoffensively.
