Video: Gonjasufi Stays Weird

March 25, 2010

The actual version of "Kobwebz" is just a little over two minutes long. It's a perplexing, almost frustratingly brief look into Gonjasufi's weird ass world of song sketches. It makes him seem mysterious without ever requiring him to actually hide anything. Maybe it's because he never sticks to one genre, or maybe it's because no matter what, his grizzled voice warps everything to fit his vision—he sounds like a living, breathing myth. This weird teaser video for "Kobwebz," the darkest song on A Sufi and a Killer, is shorter than the original, but long enough to make sure you get a vibe for what the guy is about (he is about everything). Of course, if you go out and get the record, it's followed by the awesomely blunted "Ancestors," and you're like, What did I just buy, and how come it is working so well for me? This video isn't going to answer any of your questions, but "Kobwebz" is still a great song.
