The propulsive pluck, snare and whistle of "Wanderings" is the work of Spirituals aka Tyler Tadlock of Portland, Oregon by way of Jackson, Mississippi. It's the first single off his new album on Waaga Records coming this June 22nd and is probably the most unexpected dance-inducer to come through in awhile. That is, if you like jumping around to repetitive harp samples. Tadlock builds his songs by recording local free jazz, chopping it in chunks and layering with self-generated sounds to make what sort of sounds like fusion recorded by androids. The rest of the self-titled album follows suit, albeit with source materials disparate enough that "Wanderings" doesn't totally reveal what you'll hear, but it might not be a bad look to invest in a beret and some jazz cigarettes come June.
