We first got familiar with Representing NYC's hip-hop recording series back in 2009, when FADER TV premiered a mini doc about The Fly Girlz, a group of students from East Brooklyn whose first album had just been released on True Panther. That group has disbanded, but now the project, helmed by educator and experimental musician Sam Hillmer, has paired the energetic lyrical stylings of a Bushwick rappers Nine 11 Thesaurus with production by Tim Dewit formerly of Gang Gang Dance and Matt Mehlan of Skeletons. Together, the group of older teens runs Real Talk, a radio show on internet station Radio 23 that reports on sports, entertainment and community issues. You can hear then there at 5pm on Mondays. In person, they're having a record release party April 9th at Don Hill's, featuring performances by several Representing NYC groups. In the meantime, check out the premiere track "Rookie of the Year" off Nine 11 Thesaurus' debut album Ground Zero Generals, out April 26th.
