Probably the biggest musical affect 2011 will have on my life is giving a name to Dipset trance. In my brain, since the first time I heard it, Araabmuzik’s song "Streetz Tonight" has been one of the warmest and most enduring songs of the "genre," pulling together my secret favorite pastimes of downloading low bit rate trance music and not sleeping. "Streetz Tonight" borrows heavily from Kaskade’s 2008 song "4AM," of which Kaskade once recorded a beautifully minimal semi-acoustic version, as seen above. Nine days out of ten, when I'm trying to juggle a million things, the familiar mania of Araabmuzik's interpretation propels me forward. But sometimes, and the end of the year is one of them, all of my side-by-side trains of stuff to do break down. It's really jarring and actually hugely stressful, but if I stop doing nothing and listen to the fake acoustic version I can almost find my center.
