Video: Maria Minerva, “The Sound”

September 13, 2012

In a new video for “The Sound,” the tale of a love both decadent and manipulative, from Maria Minerva’s new album Will Happiness Find Me?, a cyborgian Minerva emerges from underneath a swirl of goopy gel and tangle of gears, a nod to light sculptures by 20th century painter/photographer László Moholy-Nagy. "Maria and I discussed creating a video with themes of biotechnology and posthumanism. The video attempts to depict Maria in state of metaphysical limbo, being built by an unknown entity," says UK-based director James B. Stringer. "I make everything pretty much from the ground up: 3D modeling, graphics, etc. It's a raw process—my computer is pretty rubbish." Minerva talks about crafting from essential elements, the simple loop and the human voice, in FADER #81's collection of music lessons. She'll apply that wisdom at Glasslands in Brooklyn tomorrow night, and continue a North American tour through mid October. See a full schedule of dates below.
