We haven't heard much solo Julianna Barwick material since she released 2011's very angelic-sounding The Magic Place , which, unlike her subsequent tropicalia collaboration with Helado Negro, was built pretty much entirely on overlayed vocal loops. "Pacing," from her forthcoming 7-inch on Suicide Squeeze, takes this time-tested formula and works in some unobtrusive piano tickling and Angelo Badalamenti-style synth swells. The song doesn't really go anywhere, but does it need to when her base material sounds this pretty?
