Stream: Kelela, “Keep It Cool” (Prod. by Jam City)

September 26, 2013

Just a few days out from the October 1st release of her Cut 4 Me debut, Los Angeles singer Kelela leaked another track on Rookie this morning, starring some snaky synth motifs courtesy of Night Slugs producer Jam City, a bunch of surprise melodic turns and a narrative about trying to keep it cool when your emotions are running wild. It's another shade of feeling in a release that is seemingly determined to the capture the experience of love from every angle (think: the hurt-so-good crush vibes of Kingdom collaboration "Bankhead" and the glass-shattering anger of Nguzunguzu collaboration "Enemy"), and you can feel the tension hanging in the space between each beat.
