Listen to “Rats,” an Unreleased Earl Sweatshirt Track from 2010

An old session from 2010’s Earl is unearthed.

July 21, 2014

Before the thinkpieces, the cockroach and the goat named Felicia, Odd Future was just a collection of kids rapping their asses off and spewing obscenities over lo-fi beats. None were better at it than Earl Sweatshirt, who catapulted to enigmatic stardom with just 10 tracks totaling 24 minutes on 2010's Earl. Today, we hear one of that project's lost sessions with the Tyler, The Creator-produced "Rats." The song's clanking percussion, minimalist keys and dense rhyme schemes fit seamlessly with the rest of Earl. No better way to start a Monday off than with, 94 rap music / Beat a preacher's ass to it. Check out Earl in our At Home series with Sonos.
