NYFW: Adam Selman is Making the Clothes of Our Cool Girl Fantasies

Rihanna’s wardrobe designer is serving up practical womenswear and we want another serving.

September 06, 2014

It's amazing to believe that after whipping up fantastical creations for the Only Girl in The World, designer Adam Selman still has creativity to spare. Enough so that he's been turning out womenswear collections twice a year under his eponymous label for New York Fashion Week. While Selman's debut collection last year, dealt in silky pajamas as day-time wear, this spring Selman seems grounded more than ever in cool girl reality, offering up 25 looks— well 26 if you count Rihanna's super-late arrival— of curve-hugging jumper dresses, lipstick-smeared maxi skirts and pearl-adorned crop tops. The looks, paired with straight-forward styling and flat sneakers, are low-key and remarkably unfussy— simply put, Selman is designing womenswear for the girl that's so cool, that she doesn't even have to try very hard. Bless him for dressing the rest of girls in the world.
