Alexander Wang’s Spring Collection Was Inspired by Air Jordans and Classic Kicks

Alexander Wang looks to sneaker heads for runway inspiration.

September 07, 2014

Alexander Wang's spring 2015 runway show yesterday was a technicolor marriage between streetwear and evening wear. The strength of this collection was in its textures rather than its silhouettes: the shapes were unintimidating and wearable, the details borrowed from sneaker heads. A high neck body con dress clings flatteringly to the body, while its electric blue mesh panels, leave little to the imagination, recall the mesh upper of Nike Fly Knits. A boxy cropped blouse, paying homage to the Air Jordans, is done up in the sneakers signature elephant print. It wasn't so much a mix of the high and the low, but rather a synergy of high and low at the same time: fashion and sleek tech fabrics have found a new home. Wang had a front row worthy of these neo-classics: Rihanna, Miguel, Nicki, and Tyga all smiled and watched the models strut to amped up Diplo and Matrixxman tracks. Check out the looks below.
