Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan Are Birdman’s Fountain of Youth on “Flava”

Hear Thugger shout FADER and Birdman go crazy on this new Rich Gang cut.

Rich Gang — the amorphous crew/label/clothing line that enlists whoever Birdman wants to rap next to at any given time — released an excellent new tape this week, Rich Gang, The Tour Part 1. For this latest incarnation, Birdman has drawn the most soul out of Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan, two of the most blissful young voices in Atlanta rap. On tape cut “Flava,” the trio arrive as inspired and celebratory as their runaway hit "Lifestyle," but even more tender: Where your heart at? I wanna pour that out like Moët, Thugger quips, before serenading a special young lady he says has appeared on the cover of FADER. (We can't call whether he's subbing Nicki or Twigs <3) Even so, the real star of “Flava” is Birdman, clocking in one of his best verses in recent memory, rapping like '00 Eminem off a pint of pink: Been a hunna and a gunner and a stunna, nigga gettin money representin Uptooowwn. If he's found a fountain of youth in Thug and Quan, he should stay sipping.
