Last night, Dev Hynes and Samantha Urbani performed "It Is What It Is" on Kimmel. Their amazing, choreographed routine, which incorporated cleaning products, backup dancers in leotards, and an electric guitar solo, marked both Hynes' and Urbani's first network TV appearance. In his FADER cover story last year, Hynes spoke candidly about the emotional significance of "It Is What It Is," and called it Cupid Deluxe's "hidden best" track. "It's the most direct lyrics on the record, it was post-Solange, post-Sky, and I didn't know where I was going. But I had been trying not to dwell on the negative. I have Samantha, everything's going to be alright. It's my get-out-of-a-panic attack song," he said. Hope this TV appearance brings us one step closer to the below Instagram getting its own movie.
