Music Business Worldwide reports that Mark Ronson's runaway smash "Uptown Funk" was streamed more than 15.4 million times in the last week of January, making a total of 125.9 million times since its release on November 10th. If, as it claims, Spotify pays out $0.007 per play, the record has earned $880K in total and is generating a little over $100K a week in revenue for Ronson, Bruno Mars, Columbia, and the various songwriters who contributed to the single. These are interesting numbers to consider in light of growing debate about streaming revenues in the music industry—it seems all artists have to do to make some solid cash on Spotify is go Number 1 in 20 countries.
