One of the many things not addressed in the deeply weird Tidal livestream press conference held earlier this week was how much, exactly, the Jay Z-and-other-famous-people-owned streaming service is going to pay out to artists. We still don't have a precise answer, but—but!—in a Q&A with Jay Z and Tidal executive Vania Schlogel at NYU this afternoon, the latter confirmed that it will be a higher royalty rate than other services offer. "Royalty rates will be higher than other streaming services," Schlogel told the audience.

Another question that Jay Z fielded was whether artists will have a chance to sign with Tidal when artists' current label contracts expire. Jay Z put it thusly: "I'm on Tidal. I don't have a label." Well, that settles that, then.
