Jay Z Will Give A Free Concert To Tidal Subscribers

A performance featuring rare songs from his catalogue.

Man, Jay Z really wants people to join Tidal. A few days after doing a bizarre business pitch-as-defensive maneuver on Twitter, Jay and his questionably troubled streaming company are teaming up to put on a free concert for Tidal subscribers called Jaÿ-Z B-Sides. (Side notes: is the hyphen back? Is he using an umlaut on the "y" in his name now? What the fuck?) The concert is taking place on May 13, and as seems to be the case with almost everything involving Tidal, there's a catch—you can only win entry to the contest, as the website explains, by the following rules:

"TIDAL users who create a playlist and share on Twitter will be entered into the playlist contest and will have a chance to win two free tickets to an upcoming Jaÿ-Z concert in NYC. Tweets must include the hashtag #TIDALXJAYZ. Must be 18+ to enter."

So, this isn't really as much of a gift to Tidal subscribers as it is an opportunity to receive a gift, if you pay money and create content for the company—which is reminiscent of the Arrested Development quote where Michael Bluth explains to Lindsay Bluth that she doesn't have a job, but a job offer, which anyone can get. (Related: Arrested Development is still streaming on Netflix, a subscription of which is still cheaper than even Tidal's lowest-tier package.)
