Converse To Open Historic Studios For Free Sessions

Starting today, artists can apply to record in 12 landmark studios around the world.

May 26, 2015

This fall, Converse will offer emerging musicians recording time at landmark studios in eight countries. Abbey Road Studios in London, Stankonia in Atlanta, and Tuff Gong in Kingston are among 10 historic studios participating in the global pop-up, to be held over two weeks in September. Starting Tuesday, artists can apply for recording slots—travel and studio time will be covered by Converse.

The takeover of these studios is an expansion of the Converse Rubber Tracks program, through which Converse has sought to deepen relationships with musicians since 2011. At Converse Rubber Tracks studios, bands record music for free with in-house engineers and retain the rights for those recordings. There are two permanent Converse Rubber Tracks studios, in Brooklyn and Boston, and pop-up studios have opened in a dozen more cities, including Beijing, Austin, Mexico City, and São Paulo. (The Converse Rubber Tracks studios in New York and Boston will host sessions in September, along with the 10 other studios.)
