How To Steal Solange’s New Age Beach Style

Just don’t forget sunscreen.

June 08, 2015

We know Solange has both style and vacationing down pat, so we put together this handy guide to help you recreate some of her more memorable, free-spirited seaside sartorial moments. You're welcome.

1. The Day Trip

Finding a midi-length skirt you'll actually want to wear as you traipse around in the sticky summer air is harder than pulling off this particularly brazen shade of orange. We love the elastic waist and relaxed fit of this sunny Zara skirt, which is perfect for pairing with a lightweight tank top or a one-piece swimsuit, a roomy bag for souvenirs, and crisp white sandals.

Really any variation on an embellished crochet dress is an easy way to cover up without overheating, and luckily there are lots of variations out there to choose from. We like Topshop's halter-neck version. Pair it with cat eye sunglasses and leather sandals for a thrown-on look that's put-together. Just don't forget sunscreen to avoid weird-ass tan lines.

Tuck a loose, gossamer-thin white tee into high waisted bikini bottoms so you're not walking back from the beach nearly naked and shivering. Comb a blob of curl cream or coconut oil through your hair for low-maintenance freedom, and complete the look with a wide-brimmed sun hat.

4. The Night Move

Effortlessly transition your beach steez to cocktails by slipping into a slinky cut-out dress, brushing on an opaque polish, and stuffing your hotel keys (what else do you really need?) into a structural clutch. For makeup, keep it simple and let your tan do the work by swiping some vaseline onto your eyelids and then applying mascara.

Sometimes, a breezy v-neck smock dress in a flattering shade of yellow is all you need. Throw it on over a bustier bikini top, grab a wrap in a rich hue in case it gets cold, and just go. You'll be good from first swim to beach bonfire.
