The appeal of Tanlines’ new video for “Palace” is partly mathematical: How many videos involve couples therapy, a sex montage, cocaine, poison, and electrocution? The clip is co-directed by Teddy Blanks and Alex Karpovsky (aka Ray on Girls), who also appears in the video alongside Natasha Lyonne, and Ben Sinclair (from the web show High Maintenance). A rotating and interconnected group of couples try to figure it out while the slick, streamlined funk of “Palace” pulses through the background—the wistful, slightly-melancholy dance music evokes groups like the New Order.
