Listen To Mabel’s Tender, Truth-Telling Debut Single, “Know Me Better”

Neneh Cherry’s youngest daughter is one to watch.

In her Palace jacket and worn-in jeans, London-based, Stockholm-raised singer/songwriter Mabel looks like she means business. And she certainly does, for debut single "Know Me Better" showcases a fresh and distinct voice with a tender approach to storytelling: Doesn't matter what you wear now that I've seen you like this/ I thought I knew you but there's something I missed. Mabel's the daughter of pop legend Neneh Cherry and Massive Attack producer Cameron McVey—and her sister makes music, too—so it's no wonder she's learned a thing or two about being original.

"When you first get to know someone you don’t want to let that person see your weaknesses, but in a way you’ve not really shown them your whole self until they’ve seen the rough edges," Mabel told The FADER via email. "'Know Me Better' is about losing layers of pretension and control, and letting your guard down. It felt like the right track to come with first for so many different reasons, but I think the title kind of says it all: I would like people to get to know me and I’m hoping that will happen through my music." Keep your ears open for more music from Mabel soon.
