“I’m not telling you shit—I’m showing you.”

Future has a new album dropping shortly, so he is hitting the promo circuit heavily, releasing a multi-part documentary one clip at a time (and throwing a few shots in the direction of his ex, Ciara -- controversy never hurt sales). In part 2, Future hops into the studio with Drake’s righthand man Noah “40” Shebib and talks about the success of “Fuck Up Some Commas.” These clips attempt a complicated dance: Future keeps trying to position himself as an underdog making a big comeback, but as he points out, he’s had songs on the charts pretty steadily for years.

The rapper is intent on explaining his career trajectory after Honest came out in 2014. “I was over-passionate for the music, and I had to show it,” he says. “I had to show what made me different. I had to drop a whole body of music like Monster from the beginning to end.” “I know music,” he adds. “I’ve studied the game. I’m not telling you shit—I’m showing you this shit.”
