uhlife And NiceGuyxVinny’s “No Ebola” Is A Fierce Lesson In Minimalism

“Myself and other peoples of melanin in the struggle won’t be squashed out easily.”

Few tracks can match the spareness of “No Ebola,” a new song from the rapper uhlife and Soulection's NiceGuyxVinny. The beat is little more than loping rim shots; occasionally there’s a satisfying flicker of bass. “I wasn't sure what I was going to do with [the instrumental],” Vinny tells FADER in an email. “uhlife heard it, told me to keep it how it was, not to do too much.” The stripped-back approach gives plenty of space for uhlife’s rapping, which is fitting, because he has a point to make. “I wrote the song with the intention of letting the powers-that-be know that myself and other peoples of melanin in the struggle won’t be squashed out easily,” he notes. “No matter what evil forces they try to implement against us.” Don’t let the laid-back vibe fool you.
