As part of the steady stream of promo for the new N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube took a moment to examine the interpretations of one of N.W.A.'s most famous singles on the site Genius. He praises almost all the annotations he encounters, adding clarification when necessary. For example, one user wrote that the MC's lyrics indicate, "Cube's gumbo recipe substitutes the flesh of his enemies for the andouille sausage." "This more a threat about taking my enemies and actually cooking their ass inside of my gumbo," Cube notes. "No substitutes," he adds. "Just sucker MCs in the gumbo."
In other Genius news, the rapper Vince Staples shared his thoughts on the platform yesterday via Twitter. While Cube gave most of the annotations his stamp of approval, Staples suggests their main value is for amusement. "Rap genius explanations still the funniest thing since Bernie Mac," he wrote.
