Rizzla Announces Fade To Mind EP With The Brittle Pop Song “Iron Cages”

With vocals from Montreal artist Odile Myrtil.

New York-based producer Rizzla is gearing up to release his debut EP on Fade To Mind, and first single "Iron Cages" goes to show that the link-up couldn't make any more sense. With a show-stealing hook, sung by Montreal-based vocalist, DJ and producer Odile Myrtil, the track is reminiscent of the best and catchiest moments on Kelela's 2013 mixtape Cut 4 Me, the innovative label's most notable pop outing—but Rizzla's production has a brittle, bristling energy all of its own.

"'Iron Cages' to me is about taking charge of abusive relationships, sexual or sociological, and the pleasure that ending pain causes," Rizzla told The FADER over email. "The title refers to being trapped, obviously, but breaking out, and the name comes from the classic book about the mechanisms of American racism by Ronald Takaki. In many ways living in NYC makes you feel trapped in the club all the time, especially if you are unwell, and bringing in [Daniel from Inc's] guitars kind of fractures that overly neon turn-up sound I've grown so tired of."
