Listen To “Work,” A Dose Of Midweek Motivation From Toronto Singer Kiki Rowe

A perfect end-of-summer motivator, with a guest verse from P Reign.

August 25, 2015

Kiki Rowe, born Keandra Shan Lal in Mississauga, Ontario, is a young purveyor of luxurious R&B cuts (think self-titled-era Jojo meets Aquarius-era Tinashe) soaking up the rich sounds and culture of her home city, Toronto. Before she started making music in a bedroom studio, Kiki Rowe was writing poetry that caught the attention of people like her high school guidance counselor. Now, she's working with producers like DJ Mustard and J. Oliver to make her hazy, mesmerizing tracks—you can listen to her self-titled EP here.

Today The FADER is premiering Kiki Rowe's latest single, "Work," produced by JD Walker and featuring OVO-affiliated rapper and fellow Torontonian P Reign. "Work" has Lal showing off a harder, snappier side, as is reflected in the song's subject matter and her vocals. "I'm really excited for people to hear 'Work' because it's different then anything else they've heard from me," Kiki Rowe told The FADER. "I'm not always crying over boys, lol. When P. Reign wanted to be a part of the song I was beyond thrilled." Have a listen below, and keep up with Kiki Rowe here (we have a feeling you'll want to).
