Stream Talib Kweli And 9th Wonder’s Indie 500

“We believe in doing the music that we love and getting it to the people that love it, no matter where you are or who you are.”

November 03, 2015

This Friday, Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder will deliver a new collaborative album titled Indie 500. Spanning 13 tracks, it boasts a number of likeminded guests—including Kendra Ross, Rapsody, Problem, Pharoahe Monch, Atmosphere's Slug, and more—and is knotted with ideas and politics.

Moreover, it finds the conscious rap stalwarts defending their often stigmatized form: On "Every Ghetto," Kweli raps: They think consciousness mean a nigga ain't rugged until you get beat within an inch of it/ Self-made niggas don't get discovered.

"We believe in doing the music that we love and getting it to the people that love it, no matter where you are or who you are," 9th Wonder explained of their objective in an email to The FADER. "That's the fabric of Kweli, Pharoahe, myself, and everyone involved on this record. That's the spirit of hip-hop—getting it directly to the people."
