Erik Hassle Delivers His Big Breakup Song “Smaller”

The Swedish singer gets personal, but keeps it extremely catchy.

After capping off his summer with a cosign from Taylor Swift, Sweden's own Erik Hassle is back today with "Smaller." It's a song about a tough breakup and the chorus flips Kanye West's most famous aphorism on its head. Hooky as all hell, it's prime for winter sing-alongs.

Hassle wrote the song while in Berlin with his frequent colaborator Daniel Ledinsky. ”We were staying at an hotel with a studio in the penthouse," he explained in an email to The FADER. "We had late night writing sessions and a lot of early club-mornings, and 'Smaller' was actually the first song we wrote there. 'Smaller' is about a state we were both in at the time, so it’s a very personal song for us. Welcome into the head of Hassle/Ledinsky!"

Listen above—happy cuffing season.
