Raz Simone Revives His City In “Green Light” Video

“I’ve given the city that hope and something to believe in.”

Raz Simone works with hoarse urgency on "Green Light," a cathartic six-minute track. In the clip, the MC walks the streets of Seattle like a local hero, lending his strength to people trapped in zoned-out stupor. People are just opinionated, he raps dismissively. I can't tell some of my peers my information/ 'Cause then they would get intimidated/ Any sucka shit in my head eliminated.

"I'm from the same city as Sir Mix A Lot and Macklemore," Simone tells FADER in an email. "But nothing from the hood has been able to get out of our city. That's why the people love and respect me so much, because I've given the city that hope and something to believe in. I also give back, and push to put the rest of the city and the hood on, something no other famous rapper from our city has done yet."

The MC co-directed his latest video along with Jacob Hill. "Green Light" will appear on Trap Spirituals. Simone has already released three albums and a number of clips this year; check them out here.
