Cleveland Four-Piece Thaddeus Anna Greene Premiere The Soulful, Humanizing “Heart Out”

A song about risk, solidarity, and keeping your head above water.

December 11, 2015

Cleveland four-piece rock and soul group Thaddeus Anna Greene, was formed by frontman and lead guitarist TJ Maclin when he was just fourteen. The band recorded their first album, The Directory of Thieves' in 2011, and they've grown a lot in terms of band members and sound since then. Today they're sharing a new single called "Heart Out" via ReverbNation CONNECT's The Watch List.

Maclin told The FADER in an email that "Heart Out" was "written out of frustration and anger. Children, literally, children being shot to death by the people who are supposed to be protecting them. For me, it shows solidarity. Those children look like me, my siblings, my cousins, and could've very easily been one of us. So, the song is attempting to humanize us. When you hear Understand I'm the man in my mama's life, it is to show that there's so much that we have to lose. And when I say, You gotta take it ain't nobody gon' provide for you, I'm saying that although I have so much to lose, I have to live in a way where I risk all that in an attempt to keep my head above water in a society designed without me or mine in mind. R.I.P. Tamir Rice."
