Listen To Dilly Dally’s Roaring “Know Yourself” Cover

It sounds like if “Drake and his crew partied way harder and were ten times more sketchy.”

Dilly Dally blew minds last October when they snuck a radical, roaring rendition of Drake's "Know Yourself" into their already properly raucous CMJ set at The FADER Fort. Today, the fierce Toronto punk rockers have shared the official studio version of that cover.

In an email accompanying this good Tuesday news, singer and guitarist Katie Monks described Dilly Dally's riled take on Drake's Up North anthem as sounding as if "Drake and his crew partied way harder and were ten times more sketchy." And indeed, you might think twice about messing with Monk's woes after hearing her howl here.

As Monks tells it, Dilly Dally are kind of hip-hop heads and "Know Yourself" was the more guitar-friendly fallback when their more ambitious attempt at a cover of Kendrick Lamar's "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" fell short—"Kendrick is way better at rapping, so it was pretty tough," she said.

In return, Dilly Dally hopes that Drake might consider covering a song of their own. In particular, Monks would like to hear his take on something romantic like "Desire." And if/when he does, he can—or should—skip the growl. "When he tries to sound bad-ass or sinister, I find it unsettling," Monks said. "I feel protective of him, nearly."
