Zayn Malik's first solo single is due out today, so the former One Direction member sat down with Zane Lowe for what Beats 1 billed as "his first interview on camera." Malik admitted to feeling "a mix of emotions" in anticipation for the release of "Pillowtalk:" "I'm feeling excited, I'm feeling nervous, I'm feeling happy—I've finally got to do what I wanted to do… It's kind of just like waiting for Christmas."

He also shared the title for his debut record: Mind Of Mine. Malik told Lowe he wrote "46, 47 songs" for the album, and 17 or 18 of those will appear on the final release. One of the tracks features Kehlani. "She's sick," Malik said. "I love her."

He also praised the work of Malay as a producer: "He doesn't really look at music like a normal producer. He looks into every instrument into high detail... he does weird things, like he told me once he put a condom over a microphone and put it in water and swung it around to capture the sound of the beat."

"Its all my creative direction," Malik continued. "That's something that's massively liberating. It feels great to be able to just do whatever... If you don't like it, that's cool, 'cause I like it, so I don't really give a fuck."

In other important news, Malik said he raps "sometimes." Check out a snippet of the interview below. Here's everything we know about "Pillowtalk."
