Stream Norwegian Artist Okay Kaya’s Dreamy Rework Of “Keep On Pushing”

A vulnerable yet powerful tune for motivation to carry on.

February 08, 2016

New York-based Norwegian artist Okay Kaya has demonstrated her handle of space and sound on ethereal tracks like “Damn, Gravity” and “Clenched Teeth.” Today, she impresses again, showcasing her ability to take an esteemed piece of musical history and transform it into her own creation with “Keep On Pushing,” a dreamy rendition of the 1964 hit by Chicago gospel group The Impressions.

“'Keep On Pushing' was the first time I heard Curtis Mayfield’s voice,” Okaya Kaya told The FADER over email. “He continues to enlighten me time and time again with his supernatural way of expressing emotions. This tune has kind of become my own personal anthem of healing and progress in violent times.”

As an unofficial anthem of the Civil Rights Movement, Okay Kaya honors this healing and persistent spirit through her own syrupy vocals. Producer Adult Jazz’s soulful reduction acts as the final touch in recreating the magic.

“Keep On Pushing” is a single off her forthcoming 7” with Norwegian record label Smalltown Supersound. Be sure to listen to the track below and check out Okay Kaya European tour dates.
