Fresh off starring on DJ Khaled's "I Got The Keys" song with Jay Z, Future is now the cover star of July's issue of Rolling Stone. The piece details his rough youth in Atlanta, his many hours spent recording, and goes deep into his relationship with Ciara.

After their relationship ended, DJ Esco told the rapper he needed to get back to his roots and recording some harder songs. "Future was worried about being seen "like a fucking joke.""

“I remember Esco going, ‘You need to spend time in the studio and get back to creating,'” Future says. “‘Block all that shit out. You going through a lot right now. Turn that shit into music, or it’s gonna get the best of you.’ Because everything’s popping up in the media. Every day, it’s something. It was getting bigger than my music.”

Speaking at length about Ciara and their relationship, past and present, Future's still frustrated with the fallout. However, he doesn't wish her ill will and stresses he wants the best for his son.

""Her being successful, her being happy, helps me." He starts addressing her directly. "I'm attached to you. If you're happy, I'm happy. You're connected for life. I don't want you to go through this shit and for it to come back on my son, my kid. I want you to be in the best situation.""

He does at one point address the idea that Desiigner has done a bit more than borrow from his sound saying “I never worried about anyone else … I don’t even want his name in the article.” Read the rest of the feature here and reread The FADER's cover story with Future from 2011.
