Following the successful festival run of Moonlight, director Barry Jerkins has announced a number of new projects, including an upcoming coming-of-age drama based on the life of Olympic boxing champion Claressa Shields. Universal Pictures purchased the rights to the film in March, and Jenkins has signed on to write the script, Deadline reports.
Shields is the only American to ever win two Olympic boxing championships and her story was explored in the recent Netflix documentary, T-Rex: Her Fight For Gold, which has also been acquired by Universal. The upcoming feature film doesn't have an official release date but the documentary about Shields's life is available now on Netflix. Watch the trailer for the documentary below.
