Spotify On Exclusive Releases: “We Don’t Believe That It Is Good For The Artist”

Spotify's Global Head of Creator Services Troy Carter and Chief Content Officer Stefan Blom recently outlined the streaming music company's ad-supported business and weighed in on streaming exclusives at Wall Street Journal’s WSJ.D Live conference in Laguna Beach, California, Variety reports.

Carter defended Spotify's advertisement model, arguing that some users may never pay for music directly. "“They may never convert to a paying subscriber,” he said. “They may not be able to afford it.”

Blom also clarified Spotify's stance on Apple and TIDAL's streaming exclusive practice: “We don’t believe that it is good for the artist,” Blom said. “We are not partaking in that game.”
