The nominees for the 2017 Grammy Awards are in, and much of the list has panned out as expected. Beyoncé is nominated for nine awards, while Drake, Rihanna, and Kanye West each earned eight nods. The Album of the Year category is always fiercely competitive, but perhaps never as much as this year, which saw major releases from a wide variety of music's biggest stars across genres.
While Rihanna scored eight nominations, her Anti album was passed over for in the Album of the Year category, and is instead nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album. However, Rihanna will receive an AOTY Grammy as a featured artist if Drake's VIEWS album wins the award. Fans have definitely noticed the distinction and took to social media to voice their displeasure.
Love it or hate it, ANTI is Rihanna's best album to date and one of the best albums of the year. It deserved at least an AOTY nomination.— سامرSamer. (@WaladShami) December 6, 2016
Rihanna's ANTI definitely deserved to be nominated for "Album Of The Year"— Cersei (@CrazyClarine) December 6, 2016
