Serena Williams Announces Engagement To Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian
The tennis star broke the news of the engagement in a poetic post on Reddit.
Serena Williams is widely known for her dominance on the tennis court, and the star athlete has been outspoken about issues of race and gender throughout her career, but she has been known to carefully guard details about her personal life from the spotlight. Speaking to The FADER for her America Issue cover story, Williams said that her love life is "one of the few things that I try to keep private as much as I can."
On Thursday, Williams took to to Reddit to make public the news of her engagement to the site's co-founder Alexis Ohanian. In a comment on the "r/isaidyes" subreddit, Williams penned a poetic post, explaining that the proposal had happened during a recent trip to Rome, where the two first met. "Back to where our stars first collided/ And now it was full circle/ At the same table we first met by chance,” she wrote. "This time he made it not by chance/ But by choice/ Down on knee/ He said 4 words/ And I said yes.”
