Skepta, Drake, ZAYN, David Bowie, And More Nominated For 2017 BRIT Awards

Grime MC Skepta gets three nominations including British breakthrough act and British album of the year.

It was no surprise that breakthrough artist, Skepta, lead the nominations this year for the 2017 BRIT awards, the U.K.’s biggest annual music awards. The grime MC is up for three trophies including British male solo artist, British breakthrough act, and British album of the year for Konnichiwa, which was certified gold in the U.K.

Other notable U.K. acts in the running this year include Stormzy, Skepta's fellow grime MC, for British breakthrough act, ZAYN for British artist video of the year for "PILLOWTALK", and Adele for British artist video of the year for "Send Your Love (To Your New Lover)." Anohni, whose album Hopelessness made The FADER's 24 Albums That Mattered in 2016 list, is also nominated for British female solo artist.

In the international categories, Drake and The Weeknd are nominated for International male solo artist. Rihanna, Beyoncé and Solange are all nominated for International female solo artist.

The BRITs also gave posthumous nods to David Bowie up for British album of the year and British male solo artist, and Leonard Cohen up for International male solo artist.
