An evocative performance that illustrates a painful struggle through dance.

Macy Gray has dropped a moving portrayal of race in America in her new video for "White Man." In the visual, two opposing women illustrate tensions through gripping choreography, the moves reminiscent of a historic struggle between opposing forces. Absorbingly, Gray sings in her characteristically soulful rasp: "Dear white man I am not my grandmother." The times, she's saying, have evolved and so has her ability to resist.

"White Man is a reflective critique of the state of race relations and gender equality in contemporary America which aims to recognize the progress made," Gray told The FADER over email. "It highlights the significant shortcomings that still exist, the acknowledgment that the American society does not need to be colorblind in order to advance equality for all, and concludes with a positive message of hope through collective cooperation."
