At Sunday's 89th Academy Awards, Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali won the Oscar for best supporting actor. The award is Ali's first Oscar, and is for his performance as Juan in the Barry Jenkins-directed film. Watch the speech above.
"My grandma would want me to button up," he said. "I want to thank my teachers, my professors. I had so many wonderful teachers. One thing that they consistently told me...It’s not about you. It's about these characters. It's was about Juan." He also thanked his fellow actors, Jenkins and his wife, who recently gave birth to their daughter.
