Chewing Gum’s Michaela Coel To Star In London-Based Musical Been So Long

Coel plays a single mom whose life is changed on a night out in Camden.

Chewing Gum star and creator Michaela Coel is to star in a London-based musical. Filming has begun on the feature-length Been So Long. Set in Camden, north London the film's soundtrack is described as being "a diverse mix of R&B, soul, U.K. dance, and cinematic orchestration" provided by guest producers.

Based on the stage musical by Ché Walker and Arthur Darvill that premiered at London theatre The Young Vic, the film will also star Arinzé Kene, George Mackay, and Ronke Adekoluejo. Completing the cast is Ashley Thomas and Game Of Thrones actor Joe Dempsie.

A press release confirmed Coel will play Simone, a young single mother who heads on a night out where she is "charmed by a handsome yet troubled stranger" (Kene).

Season 2 of Coel's Chewing Gum, which aired earlier this year on Channel 4 in the U.K., hits U.S. Netflix in April.
